CR Johnson passed away today at Squaw Valley. According to Scott Gaffney, CR got caught up on rocks going off a cliff on Light Towers, went over the handlebars and hit his head and neck on rocks on the landing.

According to RGJ.com, who received information from Squaw Valley spokeswoman Amelia Richmond: Witnesses immediately notified ski patrol and medical personnel arrived on the scene within minutes. Despite efforts to revive Johnson, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, he succumbed to his injuries.

We will continue to update you as soon as we have more information.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this devastating time.

CR, you will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace.

RIP

CR provided inspiration and style at the forefront of freesking’s innovation. CR you won’t be forgotten, rest in peace.

My long time friend,
Your attitude toward life in the wake of many challenges was an inspiration to me. I’ll miss our conversations. I’ll miss skiing with you. I’ll miss your advice and outlook. I’ll miss my friend.

CR was one of the first skiers that I really looked up to he was just such a great skier and his influence on the sport will never be forgotten. Because of his segments it made me want to be a better photographer and filmer as I wanted to eventually shoot with people like him and to travel with people who looked at the sport the way he did. because everyone just wants to “ski some deep powder…up in the mountains cause on the way down its awesome” (CR Johnson in PBP’s Everyday is a Saturday)

C.R. Man, you will be missed! Regards to your family! Say hello to Shane and go rip some cloud pillows with him, and all us freeskiers will join you someday! Peace
