Bobby Brown Wins Winter Dew Tour Slopestyle

For the slopestyle competitors, the Winter Dew Tour has come to a close. The venue here at Mt. Snow has been challenging, the weather not perfect and the competitions tight. But hot off his double-gold performance at X Games, Bobby Brown tops the charts again, with a win at Mt. Snow. Andreas Håtveit, who came in silver last weekend, took 2nd here, as well as being crowned the Dew Cup Champion. And Sammy Carlson, who took bronze last week, grabbed 3rd place here, making a virtual X Games podium repeat.

Brown kicked things off with a 450 disaster, to 450 off the next to switch right misty 900 to 630 off the canon box to 270-270 on the down bar to switch misty 900 to double cork 1260.Clean, perfectly executed and technically difficult, Brown gave it all he had on this tough course. Håtveit, whose first run score stood up, Dropped a switch 450 on to 450 off to switch right 900 to misty 630 off the canon box to 270 on the down rail to switch left 900 to double cork 1080. This marks the 3rd time that Andreas has made the Dew Tour podium this year, making him the most consistent, and hence, the Dew Cup.

Sammy Carlson, fresh off his win in Elimination yesterday, brought switch right side 900s to 630 off w/ a poke on the canon and double 1080 pokes at the bottom to grab bronze. JF Houle, the winner here at Mt. Snow last year, used solid rail tricks (including two 630s off, anyone else catch that?) and stylish rightside 720s and switch left 1080s to secure a spot just off the podium. Alex Schlopy, who missed finals last stop, put it together here in Vermont, which included a switch 1440 on the bottom air, a trick that was really popular with the crowd.

After falling his first run, Alexis Godbout needed to put one down and using his signature solid style, including a switch 1080 to switch misty 900 double-jump combo, the Quebecois did just that and landed in 6th. Tom Wallisch, last stop’s winner, didn’t have the cleanest first run, then fell on his 2nd run, after stomping a switch 900. Not sure if a snow monster or something caught Tom’s edge, but he went down nonetheless. There is no wondering, Tom Wallisch will be back at the next event, guns blazing.

Jossi Wells, whose first run wasn’t the cleanest, including a few knuckles, was putting down the run of the finals, including a double 1260 that was presumably going into a switch double 1080, but unfortunately he caught an edge (or Tom’s same snow monster) and went down just before the last jump. Jossi’s top part of the run was flawless, getting my vote for winning the rails.

Joe Schuster, who qualified from prelims after being invited on a wildcard, showed his true colors today. 630ing on the top rail like a man, Joe continued down the course 270ing on this, switch 1080ing that and landing himself a respectable finals placing. Charles Gagnier, who qualified 2nd yesterday had tougher luck today, not landing either of his two switch misty 900s on the bottom jump. The newcomers McRae Williams and Elvis Harsheim both had a tough day, but skied valiantly this week and earned themselves a finals finish as well.

The Winter Dew Tour is now over for Slopestyle skiers, and as we look back to the dominance of Håtveit, Brown, Wallisch and Carlson over the past three stops, it’s no surprise that Andreas wins the cup. Stay tuned tomorrow for Superpipe finals during the day, as we watch the nine finalists join the three superqualifed (Jossi Wells, Simon Dumont, Xavier Bertoni) and duke it out for the podium and for that Dew Cup in halfpipe.
