Warren Miller Speaks Out

On Setpember 25, Warren Miller, the person, and his personal company, Warren Miller Company, put himself in the mix as a “third party intervenor” in Warren Miller Entertainment’s lawsuit against Level 1 Productions. Filing to be a third party intervenor means that Warren Miller has aligned himself and his company with Level 1 to help them fight the case, while also ensuring that Warren Miller’s interests are protected in the case.
Warren Miller told Freeskier today why he is getting involved in the lawsuit: Warren Miller“I consider Josh my friend and I have been very impressed with his efforts as a film maker, and more so as a human being. He is a very nice young man, and I was honored to oblige his request to participate in Refresh. I have been invigorated by working with his group, whose passion for skiing matches my own. WME made clear to me long ago that they did not want me involved in their films – so I’ve essentially cut all of my ties to them. I have a legal and moral right to freely use my name, voice, and likeness as I choose. By suing Josh, I feel that WME is challenging my rights as a person and public figure. I will not stand by and let a young, talented artist like Josh get shoved around by a group that, in my opinion, has no genuine regard for the fans.” Josh Berman then offered this comment:Josh Berman“Since the lawsuit was filed, the support from every level of the ski industry has been overwhelming. Skiing as a whole is a global but tight-knit community, and it’s sincerely flattering to see so many people rallying behind our cause. To have Warren personally file a motion to intervene is a tremendous vote of confidence—it means a lot to me personally to have his support.”

Thankyou Josh and Warren for “bridging the gap” within our sport. Hearing Warren embrace someone like Josh, who I look up to and admire for his work, stands out to me as a milestone in the ski production world. Level 1 has taken and promoted a whole new era of skiing, and although very different from Warren’s films, they both follow the same passion. I’m so sick of hearing all the hot-doggers from the 80’s talk shit to me for sliding rails, saggin my pants, and skiing backwards, so to hear someone like warren embrace that is a true accomplishment in the sport. Just goes to show that skiing is whatever you want to be, and its more about the mentality than anything else.. this is where WME is fucked, and needs to go back to Hollywood. Hate to admit it though, but after seeing Refresh I have a new interest in Warren Miller films. Now i just gotta figure out how to accumulate those films w/o giving those greedy fucks at WME any of my $$$$$$$$.

This suit sounds similar to the one wherePolo Ralph Lauren sued the US Polo Association for trademark infringement.

I said it once I’ll say it again. I will not buy any WME films and I hope that Warren Miller knocks them right off of the little soap box WME is standing on. You dont tell THE MAN he is not welcome into the company HE started and expect the faithful to follow. If Warren Miller stands behind Level1 and is invited to speak in their films, then I will fully put my support behind Level1. As for Refresh, it will be great to hear the the real voice of skiing behind the mic once again. THANKS WARREN FOR STANDING FOR WHATS RIGHT

i have seen some WME as i was growing up i think the fact the company is disagreeing with is name sake it just sad i think if WM wants to use his voice he should feel free to WHat does the company own his voice i think not so screw WME and all who love the sport of skiing stand up and tell WME that they have no reason for this law suit and all who love skiing join me and stand with LEVEL 1 PROductions and all its members
